- Actually it is extensively documented in the RKM's. It just said be careful
- to keep the timings set within the recommened CBM guidelines, at leat through
- RKM 2.0. That said, I was never very fond of the idea of programming media
- devices direct to the hardware. Back in the early days when everything was
- slower I could understand why someone would make a fast custotm loader for
- those large 2 disk+ games that took a long time to load, although I still
- never entirely agreed with it. Copy protection overall was the main reason.
- Personally I wasn't fond of it at all as you couldn't make back-ups, install
- to other media types, often made the drives gronk horribly if they went
- overboard with things and had to figure to be the most likely piece of
- hardware to someday be incompatably replaced despite RKM documentation. I
- guess many companies felt that just had to with pircacy and all, although I
- wonder if disk based really ended helping them out overall or not, especially
- once modems became common.
